The volume of sound it's degree of loudness or softness.

'The relative loudness or quietness of music fall under the geneneral element of dynamics. In classical music the terms used to describe the dynamic levels are often written in Italian. For example;

pianissmo [p] = very quiet

piano [p] = quiet

mezz-piano [mp] = moderately quiet

mezz-forte [mf] + moderately loud

forte [f] = loud

fortissimo [ff] = very loud'

The speed that the pulse is going.

'Tempo can be defined as the pace or speed a wich a section of music is played. Tempos or tempil, help the composer to convey a feeling of either intensity or relaxation. The tempo can have virtually any amount of beats per minute. The lower the number of beats per minute, the slower the tempo will feel ... The higher the number of beats per minute, the faster the tempo will be'.

Vocal music often follows the FORM of its text.

'The large-scale form  of a musical composition can be built from any combination of the musical elements. Form in Western music has primarily associated with, melody, harmony, and rhythm. Letters (i.e A, B, C) are used to designate musical divisions created by the repition of material or the presentation of new, contrasting material'.

The succession of pitched sounds

'Melody is the element that focuses on the HORIZONTAL presentation of Pitch

Pitch: the highness or lowness of music sound

Melody: a linear series of pitches

Melodies can be described as;

*Conjunct (smooth; easy to sing or play)

*Disjunct (disjointedly ragged or jumpy; difficult to sing or play)'.

Two of more pitches sounding at the same time.

'Harmony is the VERTICALIZATION of pitch. Most often harmony is thought of as the art of combining pitches into chords. The chords are then arranged into sentence-like patterns called progressions'.

The quality of the sounds.

'If you play a "C" on th piano and then sing a "C", you and the piano have obviously produced the same pitch - but why doesn't your voice sund the same as the piano? It is because of the laws of physics and musical acoustics ... each musical instrument or voice produces its own characteristic sound patterns and reslutant "overtunes," which give it a uniques "tone color "or timbre.  Composers use timbre much like painters use colors to evoke certain atmospheres on a canvas'.
